DAY 11 AN ALPINE HIKE FROM SCHARNITZ |
| We were scheduled to spend out last hiking
day riding a funicular followed by a hike to the Seefelder Spitze above Seefeld. However,
the funicular operations had not started, so our leader chose a different hike that would
take us by train to nearby Scharnitz and a walk into a nature preserve with beautiful
alpine scenery, a downward view into a canyon and another stop at a mountain restaurant.. (Right) Seefeld railway station. Our group awaits train from Innsbruck to take us on a short trip to Scharnitz. |
|
| After we left the railway station, we began a long steady uphill walk along a gravel road. The initial part of the walk was a relatively gentle grade where we stopped occasionally for short breaks. The trail (road) slowly climbed along a stream-cut canyon. Eventually a side trail crossed the head of the canyon on a short wooden bridge over a small gorge. Stream cascade views from the bridge also. |
| We followed a road down again on the other side of the canyon. The trail crossed over to another valley that brought us to our welcome lunch stop at a small restaurant. |

| From there, we followed a single track trail through open woods along a small river back to Scharnitz and back to the train station for our trip to our hotel. | ![]() |
