Day 8 dawned overcast and a bit rainy. Our guide chose to visit Innsbruck in the rain and save the sunny days for our trail hikes. We boarded the train in Seefeld for about a 45 minute scenic ride to Innsbruck and dodged raindrops as we toured several Innsbruck highlights.

One of the more interesting to me was the Hofkirche (below) that was built as a memorial for Emperor Maximilian I completed in 1565. It contains larger-than-life bronze figures. The tomb in the church was built as well for the emperor, but he was never buried there.

Later in the afternoon after returning to Seefeld, we attended a wonderful lecture on the subject of Austrian History and Politics since 1945 by Bob Tennyson, PhD.  He began by by covering some of the earlier Chancellors since 1933 through Wolfgang Schussel (1999). Very informative presentation on Austria's position during the Hitler era and the effects of post-war development as a key player in the Cold War. The political picture today, like much of Europe, involves forming ruling coalitions sometimes made up of strange bedfellows.
